The young mother

buried the crockpot

behind the clutter

of cookware

she often used –

              the nonstick omelet pan, the griddle,

              the fancy blender that made smoothies, soup,

              and ice cream.

Life was moving too fast

to slow cook.

 

The old woman

she never used –

              the turkey roasting pan, the tagine,

              the fancy gizmo that promised to fry, steam, roast,

              make ice cream.
